Trail Cutting
GrindForce cuts walking trails, ATV paths, horse trails, and property access routes through overgrown brush and wooded land. If thick vegetation is blocking access to your property or making it unusable, we clear a defined path through it cleanly and efficiently. This service is built for landowners, farmers, equestrian property owners, hunting land managers, and municipalities across the Chicago South Suburbs, Southwest Suburbs, West Suburbs, and Northwest Indiana who want open, functional trails without hauling or burning.
How It Works
We bring a forestry mulcher to your property and cut through brush, saplings, and trees up to 8 inches in diameter at the base. Vegetation is mulched on-site where it stands. The mulch is left in place as ground cover along the trail edge. No debris is hauled away. No burn piles. The finished path is clean and ready for immediate use.
If you are not familiar with the process, see our overview of how forestry mulching works and when it makes sense.
Before work begins, we walk the property with you or work from your marked layout to confirm the trail route, width, and anything you want preserved. The machine body is 7 feet wide and requires a minimum working width of 10 feet for safe operation and maneuvering. We cut to that width and keep the edges defined throughout.
We work around established trees, fences, structures, and any features you identify. You direct what gets cleared. We follow that plan and stay within the agreed scope.
If there are downed logs or detached material along the trail route that need to be moved or staged, root grapple service is available as an elective add-on. It is not included in standard trail cutting but can be added to your quote before work starts.

Who It Is Right For
Trail cutting is a practical option for anyone managing larger parcels of overgrown or wooded land. Hunting property owners use it to open access routes between stands, food plots, and field edges. Equestrian landowners use it to establish riding paths wide enough for safe use. Families with acreage use it to reclaim overgrown ground and create walking trails through land that has been neglected for years.
If the property also has invasive species like buckthorn or honeysuckle taking over the understory, our buckthorn and invasive brush removal service clears them using the same equipment.
If your property edges have also been overtaken by brush, our fence line clearing service handles overgrown boundaries and perimeter lines using the same equipment.
It also works well for municipalities, forest preserves, and park districts that need access paths cleared efficiently without staging haul-off equipment or managing debris removal afterward. Grind Force serves properties across the Chicago South Suburbs, Southwest Suburbs, West Suburbs, and Northwest Indiana within 60 miles of Palos Park.
If your land has brush or overgrowth standing between you and usable ground, trail cutting is a fast clean reset that gets the path open and ready without the mess of traditional clearing methods.
Frequently Asked Questions
How wide will the trail be?
The machine requires a minimum working width of 10 feet for safe operation. Most trails we cut run 10 to 12 feet wide depending on your intended use and any obstacles along the route. We confirm the width with you before we start and cut to that spec.
What size brush and trees can you handle?
Our equipment clears brush and trees up to 8 inches in diameter at the base. Anything in that range is handled in a single pass. Larger trees that exceed that size would need to be taken down separately before we arrive.
Will you remove the debris after cutting?
No. Forestry mulching processes vegetation on-site. The mulch is left along the trail as natural ground cover that helps hold soil and slow regrowth. There is no hauling, no dump fees, and no burn piles to deal with after the job is done.
Can you cut trails on sloped or hilly ground?
Yes, within reason. The machine operates well on slopes under 30 degrees. Steeper terrain may require a site evaluation before we can confirm the job. Contact us with your property details and we will let you know upfront what is workable.
How do I get a quote for trail cutting?
Contact us through the form at grindforceservices.com/contact or call Pete directly at 708-888-0797. We review the property, confirm the trail route and scope, and give you an accurate no-surprise quote before any work is scheduled.
